Why Queensland Reserves Plumbing for Licence Holders
Queensland runs two licence layers before plumbing or drainage work changes hands: an occupational licence for whoever does the work, and a contractor licence for the business that accepts it. The QBCC issues both.
The occupational licence proves trade skill. The contractor licence proves the financial capacity and business training standing behind the job.
Three classes then split the work itself:
Plumber
authorises plumbing work, apart from jobs that need their own endorsement.
Drainer
authorises drainage work below ground level, again apart from endorsed jobs.
Gasfitter
gas work is reserved for a licensed gasfitter, covering the installation, alteration, repair, service, testing and certification of gas systems and their pipework.
Regulated work falls into permit work, notifiable work and minor work, and all three require a licence holder. The QBCC's own guidance is that this protects the home, your health and your rights.

Who Checks Plumbing Work and What You Receive
Two bodies share the checking: the QBCC runs licensing and keeps the record of notifiable jobs, while the local council approves new work, grants permits and sends inspectors. You can also ask the council to inspect notifiable work while it is under way.
The paperwork you walk away with depends on the job:
Form 4
after notifiable work, the owner or whoever engaged the plumber receives a copy. If yours never turns up, the QBCC will provide it.
Gas compliance certificate
the licensed gasfitter gives the owner this certificate as soon as gas work finishes, and files a copy with the gas network operator within 5 days.
The QBCC's registers are open to you as well. A licence check confirms the plumber, and a search on your street address lists any Form 4 lodged for the property.
The Suburbs We Work Across
Our regular run takes in this suburb plus its neighbours: Bardon, Auchenflower, West End, St Lucia, Taringa and Mount Coot-tha. Mount Coot-tha and West End each have a page of their own, and the suburbs we cover list spells out the catchment.
The work ranges widely. One week it is homes near Toowong Cemetery, the next it is amenity blocks at the Transport for Brisbane workshops and bus depot.

Diagnose, Quote, Repair and Test
- 1

What you tell us
The job starts with your account of the fault, which sets what we bring and where we look first.
- 2

Diagnosis on site
The plumber traces the symptom to its cause before touching a tool, so the fix lands on the real problem.
- 3

The quote and the work
You get a fixed quote before any work starts, with flat-rate pricing and no hidden fees, and the work begins once you approve the figure.
- 4

Testing and sign-off
We test what we have repaired, then hand across any Form 4 or gas compliance certificate the job has generated. Card and EFTPOS payment on site settles the account.
Questions Our Customers Ask Us
Call (07) 3524 7137What is the difference between a plumber and a drainer in Queensland?
A plumber's licence authorises plumbing work, while a drainer's licence authorises drainage work below ground level. The QBCC issues both, and gas work sits on a separate gas work licence again. Most jobs we attend touch more than one class, so we hold them together.
Is every job in Toowong done by a licensed plumber?
Yes, every job is done by a licensed plumber, working under QBCC No: 15024607. The QBCC's registers confirm the licence whenever you want to check it yourself, and we're happy for you to.
What can I do if plumbing work in Toowong turns out faulty?
Raise the problem with the plumber first. If the work may be unlicensed, defective or non-compliant, the QBCC accepts complaints and you can lodge one online. Missing Form 4 paperwork for notifiable work counts as a reason to complain too.
What does QBCC licensed mean for my plumbing job?
QBCC licensed means the QBCC has issued the licences behind the job: one held by the person on the tools, and one held by the business running the job. Before gas work starts, you may also ask to see the gas work licence.
